What Is Anti-Fingerprint HPL?

Anti-fingerprint HPL is a decorative high-pressure laminate with a specially engineered low-reflection surface that helps reduce the visibility of fingerprints, smudges and oil marks created by daily contact.

The material is manufactured by bonding layers of resin-impregnated kraft paper with decorative paper under high temperature and pressure. A specialized ultra-matte surface treatment provides a soft-touch texture, low light reflectivity and easier daily cleaning than many conventional glossy or standard matte laminates.

Types of Anti-Fingerprint Laminate

Thin Anti-Fingerprint HPL Sheet

Thin anti-fingerprint HPL is normally supplied in approximately 0.7–1.0mm thickness and must be bonded to a suitable substrate. It is commonly used for cabinet doors, wardrobe panels, furniture fronts, interior doors, retail displays and wall panels.

The finished panel performance depends not only on the decorative laminate but also on the substrate, adhesive, balancing sheet, pressing process and edge treatment.

Anti-Fingerprint Compact Laminate

Compact laminate contains a thicker phenolic kraft-paper core and can be self-supporting at suitable thicknesses. It may be used for furniture panels, partitions, vanity panels, tabletops and other applications requiring increased moisture resistance and structural strength.

Anti-Fingerprint Laminated Furniture Board

A finished furniture board combines anti-fingerprint HPL with MDF, particleboard, plywood or another substrate. It can be supplied as a complete panel with matching backer, edge banding and machining according to the project requirements.

Antibacterial Anti-Fingerprint HPL

How Does an Anti-Fingerprint Surface Work?

Fingerprints become visible when natural skin oils and moisture create differences in surface reflection. Anti-fingerprint laminate uses an engineered ultra-matte surface structure that reduces reflected light and makes ordinary contact marks less visually noticeable.

The low-reflection surface also creates a deeper, more uniform color appearance. Dark gray, black, navy, green and other deep colors particularly benefit because ordinary fingerprints are often more visible on conventional dark glossy finishes.

“Anti-fingerprint” does not mean that no oil, dust or dirt can ever remain on the surface. It means that fingerprints and smudges are less visible and generally easier to remove under normal use.

Thermal Healing of Superficial Micro-Scratches

How to Choose the Right Anti-Fingerprint Laminate

B1, Class A, EN 13501 and other fire-related descriptions are based on different test systems and should not be used interchangeably. Buyers should confirm the exact standard, classification report, panel thickness and tested configuration.

Likewise, antibacterial performance, food-contact suitability, low-emission performance and environmental certification must be verified for the exact product. These properties should not be inferred only from the anti-fingerprint surface.
